CHANCE VOIGHT V-173
CONCEPT FIGHTER
THIS IS THE V-173 FLYING FLAPJACK ORIGINALLY MADE BY CHANCE VOIGHT.  I HAD MADE THIS
FOR FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2002 AND WAS UPLOADED TO THE WEBSITES IN 2003.  THIS IS ONE OF
MY FAVORITE CONCEPT PLANES WHICH FEATURES A DISC LIKE LIFTING BODY.
IN THE RELEASED VERSION AVAILABLE ONLINE, MY MODEL FEATURED
OPENING CANOPY, OPENING ENGINE COWLINGS, OPENING ENGINE VENTS
AS WELL AS WORKING CONTROL SURFACES.
THIS IS A SHOT OF HER IN FRONT OF A SUPERB GERMAN SCENERY ADD
ON THAT FEATURES PEOPLE AND CARS, ETC.
THESE ARE SOME ACTUAL PHOTOS TAKEN
OF THE PROTOTYPE FIGHTER.
NOTE THE FORWARD NOSE
BELLY WINDSCREEN WHICH
ALLOWED FOR EXTREME STOL
LANDINGS WITH SUPERB
VISIBILITY FOR THE PILOT.
THE HULL WAS VERY
SIMILAR TO A DISC, WHICH
AT THE TIME DID CATCH
THE PUBLICS EYE AS BEING
A FLYING SAUCER DURING
FLIGHT TESTING OVER
CALIFORNIA IN THE MID
30'S.
THE MASSIVE PROPELLORS
ENABLED THE V-173 TO
MANUVER AT EXTREMELY
SLOW SPEEDS, ALMOST
HANGING LIKE A HELICOPTER.
THIS DESIGN WAS FOCUSED
ON BEING ABLE TO ATTAIN
EXTREMELY HIGH SPEEDS FOR
AIR COMBAT, AND YET LAND
ON AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER
WITH PHENOMINALLY LOW
STOL SPEEDS.
NOTE THE SMALL AIRCRAFT
ELEVATOR/AILERONS IN THE
SIDES AT REAR.  THESE WERE
ADDED LATER DUE TO
DYNAMIC HANDLING
PROBLEMS AT STOL SPEEDS.
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BIRD.
